Admission Process

What is the admission process?

Although the admission process is similar across the entire network, each conservatory has its own particularities and auditions dates. Consult the Auditions page to learn all the details specific to each conservatory.

Music

Selection Process

Admission to the Conservatoire is based on an audition and available spots. To be eligible, applicants must have the necessary skills to meet the requirements of the Conservatoire’s preparatory, college, or university programs.

For more information about auditions, visit the Auditions page.

Application for Admission

Using the Omnivox web portal, applicants must submit an application for admission to the Conservatoire and attach all the required documents no later than March 1st. For the Preparatory Studies program, late requests may be accepted depending on the number of spots available.

When submitting an application for admission, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable $50 application fee with a credit card or a prepaid card.

Admission Evaluation Process

When an application is deemed admissible, the applicant will be invited to an audition before a panel of judges which will assess their instrumental or vocal abilities.

Applicants will also have to take a placement test which will assess their music theory knowledge and aural skills.

If an applicant fails to show up for the audition at the planned date and time, their application for admission will be rejected.

The following elements are considered during the evaluation of instrumental or vocal auditions:

  • the level of difficulty of the repertoire performed;
  • the quality of the interpretation (adherence to text and style, articulation, dynamics, phrasing, expression, etc.); and
  • technical skills (tone, agility, breathing, holding of the instrument if applicable, etc.).

Audition requirements for each specialty are the same across all our conservatories. Visit the Auditions page to find important information a

Auditions Results

After the auditions, the Conservatoire informs applicants of their eligibility. Any applicant deemed eligible may be admitted only if a certain number of spots become available after the end of the school year. There is also a Pre-Conservatory program offered in most conservatories. We encourage you to ask for information about this program prior to entering the Conservatoire.

Registration

Between the end of May and the middle of June, eligible applicants are informed of whether they have been admitted or placed on a waiting list. If they are admitted, the Conservatoire will send them the documents and information relating to tuition and registration.

Applicants who are admitted to the Conservatoire must register by filling out the electronic registration form and paying registration and other fees before the deadline established by their conservatory. Once registered, applicants become “students” and therefore agree to comply with the rules of the institution, including those related to education and discipline.
